Ressence TYPE 5 L: The watch for Independent Divers

Ressence, founded in 2010 by Benoît Mintiens, has consistently pushed the boundaries of traditional watchmaking. Known for innovative designs that merge industrial aesthetics with clever liquid-based mechanical solutions, Ressence introduced its distinctive two-dimensional rotating discs and hand-free dial with the Zero Series.

The TYPE 3, released in 2013, featured an oil-filled dial that enhanced legibility by eliminating refraction. This unique approach continued to evolve, and the TYPE 5 series exemplifies their commitment to blending innovation and functionality, with a high-end product aimed for divers.

Aesthetics

The Ressence TYPE 5 L is a visual standout in the dive watch category. Crafted from grade 5 titanium, the watch boasts a 46mm diameter but is designed to wear smaller on the wrist.

The fully luminous dial is the most striking feature by far, with green-emitting Grade A Super-LumiNova coating the entire dial, creating a vibrant display in low light.

The light grey dial contrasts with white and yellow indicators for clarity and readibility. It comes with a grey fabric strap with yellow leather lining and an additional blue rubber strap.

Movement

As you would expect, it features the patented ROCS 5 (Ressence Orbital Convex System) module, driven by the minute axle of a customized ETA 2824/2 calibre. This mechanical movement is unique because it relies on magnetic transmission to connect the movement to the upper oil-filled display module, ensuring protection from both water and oil. The watch includes a compensating bellow system and Ressence's Compression Lock System (RCLS) for caseback winding and time setting. With a 36-hour power reserve, this innovative movement is an excellent choice for underwater performance.

Availability & Pricing

It is priced at CHF 34,500 (approximately €32,000 before taxes) and is a permanent part of the brand's collection.
