Article: Voutilainen KV20i Reversed and its inverted moment

Voutilainen KV20i Reversed and its inverted moment

Kari Voutilainen's atelier has long been celebrated for its meticulous craftsmanship and their strategy focuses on limited productions that highlight intricate details and superior finishing. The KV20i Reversed is not exception and I think it is the ideal successor to the highly acclaimed Voutilainen 28TI, known for its inverted caliber. Inverted means that the movement components that are typically observable via a sapphire caseback can be seen through the front dial, enabling a remarkable showcase of the exquisitely crafted and finished calibre.

Aesthetics

The KV20i Reversed features a polished case available in titanium, platinum, gold (white or pink), or stainless steel, and all measure 39mm in diameter. Its design maintains the classic Voutilainen look with a concave bezel, distinctive tear-drop lugs, and a caseback secured by eight custom screws.

The open dial showcases the KV20i calibre with a blue and gold dotted minutes ring around the periphery, and central hour and minute hands made of gold. The watch comes with a hand-sewn crocodile leather strap.

Movement

The movement features a large 13.5mm diameter free-sprung balance wheel, equipped with rose gold timing weights, a Phillips overcoil, and a Grossmann interior curve. The direct impulse escapement, with its two large blued escape wheels, is positioned closer to the 12 o’clock mark, a slight change from the 28TI. This configuration uses a single-arm balance-wheel bridge, in place of the previous two-arm bridge. The movement, manually wound, has a power reserve of 60 hours.

Availability & Pricing

It is available in several variations, with pricing accordingly reflecting the choice of materials. The steel one goes for approximately €123,100, while the white gold and platinum models slightly higher, at about €129,200. The rose gold version costs around €125,900.All prices exclude taxes. If you are lucky enough to be able to afford one, and you are interested, more details and customisation options can be found on their official website.
