MB&F’s latest creation: The complex New HM11 Architect

The HM11 Architect marks a significant return to MB&F's roots. The founder, Max Busser, has brilliantly connected watchmaking with structural architecture, emphasising the parallels and shared aesthetic values between the two fields.

Aesthetics

The new reference HM11 is a product of collaboration with designer Eric Giroud, drawing inspiration from futuristic home designs of the 1960s, especially those in Switzerland.

The era's architectural trends, influenced by space travel, modern materials, and fluid forms, are evident in this new watch's design. The watch dial, featuring small orbs on rods to indicate hours, mirrors popular wall clocks from the 1960s, tying the watch to this distinctive design era.

The HM11 features an intricately designed rotating case consisting of four pods and a central core, which houses the heart, brain, and pulse of the watch at its center. This core resembles a hub of corridors, distributing power and functions to the four distinct sections, each with a specific role. The whole case is capable of a full 360-degree rotation, allowing any of the display features to be oriented directly in front of you.

The time room, which will most of the time face the wearer, indicates the hours and minutes.

Another one, 90 degrees to the left, is dedicated to the power reserve.

A sapphire crystal dome tops this structure, and titanium cones form the walls of the pods, each featuring a side window opening to the exterior. Needless to say that the HM11 Architect will stand out in the HM collection for its unusual round shape and a relatively modest diameter of 42mm. The significant height of the watch, at 23mm, is influenced by the design of the movement and the lateral pods. However, those who have already tried it on, refer to its unique shape that makes this reference the most comfortable watch in the HM collection.

The MB&F HM11 Architect, a creation that stands out as an unmistakable "horological UFO", possesses an intangible luxury and distinct allure despite its undeniable uniqueness.

Movement

The movement is obviously an in-house creation, seamlessly integrated into the design of the watch. It is manually operated, requiring the case to be rotated clockwise ten times for winding. It provides an impressive 96-hour energy reserve. The movement's unique X-shape centers around a one-minute, 2.5Hz flying tourbillon, which governs the time display. Additionally, the movement features a comprehensive dampening system with four high-tension suspension springs, cushioning it within the lower-case shell.

The movement is available in two finishe (blue PVD-coated or gold PVD-coated) and comprises 364 parts, including a complex system of eight gaskets in the 92-part case and a ball-bearing system for the pivoting case.

This design allows for efficient manual winding and ensures durability, despite the watch's modest water resistance.

MB&F launches the HM11 in two variants: One features a blue-colored mainplate with a white strap, and the other has a red gold dial mainplate with a khaki green strap.

Availability & Pricing

The two limited edition versions, both in titanium and is priced at €207,000, CHF 198,000 or USD230,000. Each version is limited to 25 pieces, making a total of 50 pieces available worldwide.
A commercial video of the watch can be seen here.
