Cartier Tank Cintrée Platinum (Limited run)
In celebration of the Tank Cintrée model's legacy, Cartier has launched a new limited-edition Tank Cintrée in platinum, following the gold edition released for its 100th anniversary in 2021 as part of Cartier's "Les Rééditions" series.
Given that this is one of the most iconic designs from the brand, we have decided to discuss this release, emphasizing the Tank Cintrée's significance in Cartier's illustrious history and its relation to its modern reinterpretation.
Brief history recap
The Tank Cintrée, first released in 1921, was a curvier alternative to the original 1919 Tank model. Despite several Tank variations over the years, the Cintrée remains an unmatched product.
This reintroduction in 2023 celebrates its lineage with the platinum metal, linking it to its historical context. According to Cartier's archives, the initial Tank Cintrée that was made of platinum was crafted in 1923. Due to the absence of preserved samples from 1923, the 1924 platinum models are acknowledged as the true origin of this version.

Aesthetics and ergonomics
In the realm of Cartier, this re-interpretation stands out for its elegance and timeless design and will continue resisting any shifts of trends
This version stays true to its 1920s and '30s origins while incorporating slight modifications. It is easily recognised for its signature large, slender rounded case, now made slightly thinner at exactly 6.03mm that will fit any wrist. This new 950 platinum version is almost identical to the original model's proportions with a case measuring 46.30mm in length and 23mm in width. The case is worn on a black alligator strap closed by a platinum buckle.
The watch showcases a blend of polished and brushed finishes, with a ruby set in its crown which as many of you may know, is a symbol typically reserved for Cartier anniversaries.
It also retains its off-white eggshell dial, Roman numerals, and vintage touches like the Breguet-style hands. To ensure a snug fit, a pin buckle has been incorporated.
The curved profile allows this model to sit comfortably on the wrist despite the long case.
Movement and features
Powered by Cartier caliber 9780 MC (essentially Jaeger-LeCoultre 849), the watch has a remarkably slim 1.85mm thick movement but a limited (by today’s standards) 36-hour power reserve.
Again, this edition is “not water-resistant” a drawback that was already found in the yellow gold version that was released last year.

Price & availability
This new release, faithful to the brand's history and aesthetic, will surely capture the attention of many collectors and enthusiasts worldwide. However, getting hold of one will be a challenge, not much because of the circa €38k price tag, but because it will be a limited edition of 150 pieces.
