A. Lange & Söhne: The new Lange1 Perpetual Calendar In Platinum

The Saxon manufacture, A. Lange & Söhne, has a rich history in the world of watchmaking. Particularly known for its expertise in creating perpetual calendars, this German brand has consistently showcased its excellence in crafting highly complex timepieces. Following the success of the "Lange 1" model with perpetual calendar in rose gold and white gold in 2021, and the platinum one earlier this year, the maison is now introducing a boutique-exclusive platinum model with black dial.

Aesthetics

The new Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar ref. 345.036E boasts a 41.9-millimeter-diameter case made of platinum 950, one of the most noble materials in high-end horology. This is beautifully contrasted by a black dial, a hand-stitched black alligator leather strap and a prong buckle in platinum, making it, in our view, a very elegant perpetual calendar ever crafted.

The dial displays various indications: a rotating ring for the months, a window for the leap year, a grand date window, a week-day indicator, and a large counter for hours and minutes.

A special mention goes to the moon phase indicator, built on two levels, showcasing a solid gold sky disc with a blue hue that changes from a monochromatic celestial sky during the day to a dark blue starry sky in the evening. The dark dial really offers an ideal background for highlighting the moon-phase display with its integrated day/night indicator. Beautiful, isn't it?

Movement

Inside the platinum case, the watch is powered by the hand-finished L021.3 caliber. This movement operates at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour) and ensures a 50-hour power reserve. The intricacy of this caliber is visible through the sapphire crystal case back, revealing a solid gold winding rotor with the manufacture’s name hand-finished on it.

The unique mechanism developed by the maison allows the moon phase indicator to showcase both day and night hours, adding to the high-end horology allure.

Availability & Price

For those interested in owning this masterpiece, and lucky ones to be able to afford it, the price of the new Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar in Platinum remains a mystery and currently is available only upon request. You will need to go to your local boutique and inquire about this marvel.
