The Nivada Grenchen Depthmaster Orange Limited Edition
Nivada, a Swiss watchmaking firm, was established in Grenchen, Switzerland, in 1879 by Jacob Schneider. Following World War II, the company gained popularity with a range of successful watches but eventually faced challenges during the Quartz crisis. Nivada is renowned for resurrecting its historical watches and now presents the Depthmaster Orange Limited Edition NOS.
This model stands out by blending vintage charm with modern features. It follows Nivada Grenchen's tradition of reviving past classics like the Antarctic Spider and the Chronomaster Aviator Sea Diver, mixing vintage designs and modern mechanics.
Aesthetics
The Depthmaster Orange Limited Edition NOS, a re-edition of the 1960s dive watch, boasts a 39mm diameter stainless steel case, 13mm in thickness, maintaining a close resemblance to its vintage counterpart. It features a unidirectional rotating steel bezel with a 60-minute scale, and a helium escape valve, ensuring robustness and water-resistance up to 1,000m. The standout feature is its glossy orange dial, a newly discovered batch of pristine vintage Nivada Grenchen dials, with original tritium-coated hour markers and a "T SWISS MADE T" signature. The hands are modern, adorned with cream-colored Super-LumiNova. The watch is covered by a domed sapphire crystal and is available with various straps and steel bracelets.
Movement
The Depthmaster Orange Limited Edition NOS diverges from the modern standard by incorporating vintage new old stock ETA 2472 movements, the same as used in the original Depthmaster. This mid-20th century movement operates at 18,000 vibrations per hour (2.5Hz) and offers a 42-hour power reserve. This choice adds a layer of authenticity and historical significance to the watch.
Availability & Pricing
This highly exclusive edition is limited to just 10 pieces. It can be purchased directly from the brand's website and includes a copy of the Depthmaster book. The price is set at approximately €2,687 (€ from CHF conversion).
