The new Bugatti 'Tourbillon' will use a "Swiss-Watchmakers-made" instrument cluster
Bugatti has unveiled its new model, the Bugatti Tourbillon, a massively powerful hybrid hypercar with an equally astonishing price tag. The new car will replace the already spectacular €3.5 million, 1,500 horsepower Chiron.
But this page is all about watches, not cars, so continue reading!
A Swiss-made modern titanium instrument cluster
Paying homage to this new model's name, the Tourbillon features a very sexy instrument cluster that has been designed with the precision and artistry of true Swiss watchmakers. Weighing roughly 700 grams the titanium-made cluster consists of over 600 components, including gemstones like rubies and sapphires. It was engineered with incredibly tight tolerances of 5 to 50 microns showcasing the delicate and meticulous execution.
The instrument cluster's central dial displays the typical speedometer and RPM indicators that are complemented by a small digital screen at the bottom showing speed and gear selection.
These dials move like clock hands, while additional gauges on the left monitor common metrics such as temperature, fuel, and battery levels. On the right, a power indicator reflects the real-time performance of the car's massive 8.3 liter hybrid V-16 engine.
And they have placed the cluster in a clever view so that drivers can see it without issue. Bugatti engineers designed the steering wheel with a fixed hub and spokes that extend behind the instrument cluster. This design element maintains clear visibility of all indicators at all time. Moreover, they also avoided the use of screens that are sometimes hard to see under different light conditions. Another point for Bugatti!
Well, there is just one innovative hide-away central screen that emerges from the top of the dashboard.
In my opinion this allows to keep the interior modern while retaining the classic analog feel that the Swiss watchmakers have achieved with the instrument cluster.
Impressive work for an spectacular result.
