THE NEW BLANCPAIN X SWATCH SCUBA FIFTY - FATHOMS OCEAN OF STORMS
Very recently, the watch industry was amazed with the news of a joint venture between Blancpain and Swatch, building upon the celebrated design of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms. This announcement followed the triumph of their Moonswatch project alongside Omega. The Scuba Fifty Fathoms series, known for mirroring the essence of the historic dive watch, was introduced in bioceramic, a material celebrated for its lightness, versatility, and offered in a palette of five colors.
Adding to this colourful and vibrant collection is the latest release, titled the "Ocean of Storms." Let's explore its features in detail.
AESTHETICS
The new model, named "Ocean of Storms," is inspired by the Oceanus Procellarum on the Moon, covering over 10% of the lunar surface. It features a deep black color throughout. The watch retains the classic case design of the Scuba Fifty Fathoms series but in black bioceramic, measuring 42.3mm in diameter and 14.4mm in case width. Same as with any other model of the same series, It features a unidirectional rotating bezel, bio-sourced crystal, and a black sunray-brushed dial with luminous indices and hands. The design also includes a date window and a unique central seconds hand with a colored tip.
The Ocean of Storms features a NATO-style strap made from recycled fishing nets, emphasising environmental consciousness.
MOVEMENT
The Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty-Fathoms Ocean Of Storms is powered by the mechanical Sistem51 movement. This automatic movement is a notable aspect, aligning with Blancpain's ethos of never using quartz movements. The previous Swatch X Omega Moonswatch was a quartz one but we think this is a much better choice. It consists of 51 components and 19 jewels, operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, and boasts a 90-hour power reserve. The movement is decorated with a digital print of the ocean illustration and the Okenia Luna nudibranch.
AVAILABILITY & PRICING
The Blancpain x Swatch Scuba Fifty Fathoms Ocean of Storms is available under the reference number SO35B400. Priced at €390, the watch is exclusively available in Swatch stores, limited to one purchase per person per day as with any of its predecessors.
