Rolex Unveils Exclusive Day-Date 40 in Everose Gold at the 2024 Oscars

During the glitzy 96th Academy Awards held at the Dolby Theater, Rolex,  partner of the Oscars and sponsor of the Oscar Green Room, celebrated its historic screen presence in a distinctive fashion.

Unlike other brands, Rolex has carved a unique niche for itself in film history without engaging in direct product placement, instead forming an organic bond between watches and the cinematic world. This relationship was highlighted in a new video clip reel released by Rolex just before the Ceremony, showcasing iconic moments of its watches in various films over the years.

A particularly personal touch to the video reel for Danny Milton was the inclusion of a scene from "Confess, Fletch," featuring Jon Hamm wearing a Rolex Submariner ref. 1680, a watch Milton himself sourced for the film. This personal connection underscores the intimate relationship between Rolex watches and their cinematic appearances.

The climax of the video subtly introduced a new Day-Date 40 model in Everose gold with a unique "ombré slate" dial, a variant not previously seen nor known to exist. Unlike the conventional marketing strategies, this launch was low-key, creating a buzz among watch enthusiasts eager to uncover more about it.

To be honest, we do not see much special about this new release apart. It is just the same Day-Date in 40mm but with a new dial.

In addition to this Oscars-themed launch, Rolex has been known for its discreet introductions of special edition watches. Earlier in the year, a Day-Date model celebrating the Vienna Philharmonic was quietly released, featuring a uniquely designed dial. These surprise announcements, including previous ones like the Deep-Sea Challenge and the Le Mans Daytona, keep our community on its toes, eagerly anticipating what Rolex might unveil next, especially with the Watches & Wonders event on the close horizon.

Rolex’s subtle introduction of the Everose Gold Day-Date 40 at the 2024 Oscars exemplifies the brand’s understated elegance and deep-rooted connection to cinema. The unique “ombré slate” dial adds a fresh aesthetic to the classic Day-Date line, appealing to both watch aficionados and film enthusiasts. This discreet launch strategy not only highlights Rolex’s commitment to innovation but also reinforces its longstanding presence in the film industry. As we approach the Watches & Wonders event, anticipation builds for what other surprises Rolex may unveil.
