New dial colours and a bronze case: Singer Reimagined 1969 Chronograph and Timer
Singer Reimagined has just unveiled the new 1969 Chronograph and 1969 Timer. In my eyes they both look sophisticated yet elegantly simple, something like a luxurious military watch that pays homage to classic timepieces but with a modern design and functional twist.
Singer Reimagined was founded by Rob Dickinson of Singer Vehicle Design and Marco Borraccino, an experienced watch designer.
Reflecting on Singer’s track record, the brand has experimented with various materials previously: Gold, ceramic-coated aluminum, and forged carbon, yet never with bronze. These new 1969s are their first watch design using bronze.
Aesthetics
The 1969 Timer stands out for refined aesthetics, available in two distinct styles. Each colour palette includes two models (Chronograph & Timer). The Chronograph incorporates a central chronograph seconds in the dial, jumping minutes, and jumping hours. The Timer is a three-hand watch with a playful seconds hand. I will discuss more about the Chronograph in the Movement section.
You can choose between a matte green dial housed in a bronze case and a silvery dial set within a steel case. Both versions are 40mm in diameter and 13.8mm in thickness and feature golden mirror-polished indices. They are water-resistant up to 100 meters.
I really appreciate the design when looking at how the bracelet integrates seamlessly with the case as well as how its angular links are brushed at the exterior but centre polished.
Movement
At the heart of the 1969 Timer lies the simplified variant of the Flytrack calibre, a sophisticated hand-wound movement known as the Singer calibre 6363. This mechanism includes a proprietary clutch system that allows the central seconds hand to disengage from the movement when the pusher at 2 o’clock is activated and re-engage upon release.
This unique feature enables the central seconds hand to function as a flyback chronograph, timing one-minute events without the need for the usual start-stop-reset sequence. The movement boasts a power reserve of 72 hours
Availability & Pricing
The steel variant is priced at CHF 31,500 while the bronze version is slightly higher at CHF 32,500 (both excluding tax).
