The William Wood 'Dunkirk Watch'
William Wood, renowned for its firefighter-themed watches, has released its latest and most ambitious timepiece yet, the Dunkirk Watch.
This special edition honors the legacy of World War II, specifically the heroic efforts during the Dunkirk evacuation and the role of the Massey Shaw fireboat.
Jonny Garrett, the founder and grandson of a British Fire Service veteran, continues to pay tribute to his grandfather and the firefighting community through these meticulously crafted watches.
Aesthetics
The Dunkirk Watch draws its design inspiration from the Massey Shaw fireboat, featuring a unique dial that mimics the ship's twin telegraphs used for operating the main engines and fire pumps.
The dial comes in bronze, black, and red, adorned with red and champagne lume, and is protected by an anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The 42mm brushed bronze case, 13mm in height, showcases red “pipes” that symbolise the ship's engine room, with the pipe ends doubling as lugs for the 20mm tan straps made from upcycled fire gear jackets.
The case back is engraved with a detailed scene from Operation Dynamo and includes a silhouette of the Massey Shaw made from the ship's actual engine metal. It is quite a unique aesthetic that you may either love and appreciate or just dislike.
Movement
The Dunkirk Watch is powered by a Swiss Sellita SW200 Top Grade automatic movement with a respectable power reserve of 38 hours. Nothing spectacular here but enough for this special edition if I may say.
