Grand Seiko 44GS Hi-Beat SBGH345: Sleek Innovation Meets Timeless Design

Grand Seiko's 44GS model stands as a hallmark of the brand's design philosophy and heritage. Introduced in 1967, it has significantly influenced Grand Seiko's entire production line, embodying the brand's "Grammar of Design" with a timeless appeal. The 44GS's design ethos, focusing on precision, legibility, and beauty, has been meticulously maintained and subtly updated over the years, leading to the introduction of the SBGH345 model. This model, while mechanically identical to its predecessors, the SBGH299 and SBGH301, introduces a vibrant new aesthetic with its scarlet red Mt. Iwate dial, exclusively available through online boutiques.

Aesthetics

The Grand Seiko 44GS Hi-Beat 36000 SBGH345 showcases a 40mm Ever-Brilliant Steel case, an alloy that surpasses the traditional 316L stainless steel in brilliance, hue, and mechanical properties, especially in corrosion resistance. This model retains the iconic 44GS design with strong faceted shoulders, a slim conical bezel, and a Zaratsu-polished, distortion-free surface. The case is water-resistant up to 100m and features a screw-down crown and anti-reflective sapphire crystals on both sides. The dial, a standout feature, presents a scarlet red color with a Mt. Iwate pattern, inspired by the mountain near the Grand Seiko Studio Shizukuishi. This is complemented by silver-toned markers and hands, adhering to the brand's high standards of execution and sheen.

Movement

Underneath its exquisite exterior, the SBGH345 is powered by the calibre 9S85, an in-house, hi-beat automatic movement. Operating at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (5Hz), this movement ensures a high level of accuracy, with a declared range of +5 to -3 seconds per day. It also boasts a comfortable power reserve of 55 hours. The movement's capabilities are visible through the sapphire caseback, inviting admiration for its mechanical intricacies.

Availability & Pricing

The Grand Seiko 44GS Hi-Beat 36000 Ever-Brilliant Steel SBGH345 is a non-limited edition but is distinguished by its exclusive online boutique availability, starting March 2024. Priced at EUR 7,600, it represents the brand's commitment to accessibility through digital platforms, ensuring enthusiasts worldwide can acquire this exquisite timepiece. This price point reflects the model's premium materials, advanced mechanical movement, and the brand's legacy of craftsmanship and design excellence.
