Furlan Marri Disco Volante: A vintage and refreshing design that works
Furlan Marri is a watch brand that was co-founded by Swiss designer Andrea Furlan and watch collector Hamad Al Marri. It made its debut on Kickstarter in 2021 with a vintage-inspired chronograph using a hybrid mecha-quartz movement. Building on this success, the brand introduced a vintage black sector dial watch in 2022 with a mechanical movement that continued to gain positive reviews by enthusiasts.
Continuing its commitment to vintage designs and mechanical movements, they now introduce the Disco Volante series, featuring versatile 38mm cases and manual-winding Peseux movements.
Aesthetics
These new models capture the essence of vintage flying saucer designs with a modern twist. The 38mm stainless steel case, slightly larger than the original vintage models, maintains a slim profile at 8.95mm.
The double-stepped bezel is brightly polished and the streamlined look is further emphasized by the recessed crown and hidden lugs.
The dials come in two-tone variations with Super-LumiNova accents. The Havana Disco features salmon and brown tones, Disco Celeste combines blue and white, and Disco Verde showcases green and cream colours.
Movement
At the heart of the Disco Volante models is the manual-winding Peseux 7001 calibre, an ultra-thin movement (just 2.5mm) that is being produced since 1971 and that was acquired by ETA in 1985.
It boasts a power reserve of 42 hours and it is visually enhanced with redesigned bridges, hand-finished Côtes de Genève, diamond-polished bevels, and mirror-polished crown wheels and screws.
Availability & Pricing
The three watches are part of the permanent collection and the first batch will be made available this year 2024. Each watch comes with two vegetable-tanned Italian leather straps, matching the dial colors. The models are priced at CHF 2,500 (excluding tax) which is equivalent to approximately €2,330.
