Artisans de Genève: Rolex 'Poetry of Lights' Daytona

Who are these "artisans"?

For those unfamiliar with Artisans de Genève, they are an independent watch customisation company. They are not affiliated with Rolex and do not have their endorsement to modify the original watches either. Located in Geneva, this workshop specialises in designing and developing bespoke watch modifications. Their creations are crafted in limited numbers by talented artisans, underscoring their dedication to craftsmanship, quality, fine materials and creativity. As they describe it, each watch customisation narrates a distinct story, encapsulating the client's memories and aspirations.

Poetry of Lights

The collaboration involved various craftsmen and artists, all driven to create this distinctive timepiece as a testament to innovation and traditional craftsmanship.

The design process started with sketches, gradually refining them based on the client's feedback. The client, Mr. S.F., was inspired by his lineage of gemologists and has shared: “My journey with Artisans de Genève was truly special. Their dedication, expertise, and attention to detail were instrumental in realising my vision. We went through nine iterations before settling on the perfect Green Sapphire. I've always been fascinated by gemstones, as they are nature's masterpieces.”

The calibre 4130 was meticulously hand-carved, showcasing the artisans' precision and ability to encapsulate the essence of the original Rolex Daytona watch. It took two years to source 36 matching stones to achieve the desired harmony.

The result: Aesthetics

The bezel features radiant green Australian sapphires, with each gem hand-set using the Invisible Setting technique. The watch case is adorned with 52 diamonds, chosen for their clarity and sparkle.

The skeletonised movement reveals through a transparent dial made from natural sapphire, components that hint at futuristic horology. They showcase technical complexity and clarity, and each component is hand-finished. The rotor, crafted from rose gold, was intricately designed and engraved, as per the client's preferences.  The balance bridge, crafted by Artisans de Genève, showcases various handcrafted decoration techniques used on the original 4130 movement.

The watch's design contrasts vibrancy with transparency. Its sapphire dial and skeletonised movement allow light to permeate, with luminescent materials highlighting every detail. The bezel's vibrant hue juxtaposes the glossy surfaces, while the SuperLuminova hands offer a captivating visual appeal.

Ultimately, we believe that no one can argue this customisation project was a pure blend of traditional watchmaking and jewelry.

Availability & price

It goes without saying that this is a very, very limited edition,1 on 1 actually, crafted based on a specific request, ensuring its uniqueness. Although the final price hasn't been disclosed, it's estimated that the customization added at least €50,000 to the base cost of the Rolex Daytona Rose Gold, which the owner had to supply initially. For reference, the most affordable gold rose Daytona currently retails above €40,000.
