Arsham Droplet: Hublot's new Pocket Watch
I believe Hublot sometimes drifts a little bit in terms of designs, materials and collaborations (i.e. Nespresso). Some collaborations that I did like were those with visionaries like Sang Bleu, Richard Orlinski, and Samuel Ross.
However, I must admit that they always strive to innovate and to surprise enthusiasts. Their latest partnership is no exception, featuring contemporary artist Daniel Arsham, renowned for his 'future relics' which are everyday objects envisioned through a dystopian archaeological perspective.
The collaboration and result
The collaboration brings us the Hublot Arsham Droplet, a sleek, 21st-century reinterpretation of the pocket watch. Constructed from titanium, rubber, and sapphire crystan, it showcases an open-worked titanium teardrop case housing the Meca-10 movement (manual-winding).
The cool grey palette, accented with Arsham green highlights, extends to the rubber bumpers, creating a visually pleasing device that is very different from a classic pocket watch.
Measuring 73.2mm long, 52.6mm wide, and 22.5mm thick, the Arsham Droplet is not a very versatile piece. That being said, Hublot’s One Click system, allows it to be worn as a pendant and you can even place it as the centerpiece of a table clock. This watch will be water resistant to 30m but I sincerely doubt that anyone would take this to the swimming pool.
Daniel Arsham said, “The Arsham Droplet is a true testament to the power of collaboration. By combining Hublot’s technical expertise with my own artistic vision, we have created a timepiece that transcends the traditional pocket watch, blending the past, present, and future in a captivating and unexpected way.”
Only 99 pieces will be available at roughly €80,000.
