Anoma's new launch: A1 Slate
Anoma debuted in June 2024 with the A1, capturing our attention with a uniquely shaped case and a design formula inspired by timepieces like Cartier’s Crash. Unlike many weirdly shaped watches requiring exclusivity, high price tags, and long waitlists, Anoma opted for a more accessible approach through open pre-orders.
This is a philosophy I particularly appreciate: Pushing design boundaries while keeping watches available to a wider audience. Now that they have launched the A1 Slate, Anoma continues its commitment to "geometric experimentation" introducing a fresh, elegant dial.
Aesthetics
The A1 Slate retains the original triangular case that makes the brand different, measuring 38mm in width, 39mm in height, and 9.45mm in thickness. Crafted from 316L stainless steel, the case integrates seamlessly with the strap, eliminating traditional lugs for a more ergonomic fit.
The standout feature of this model is its new "Slate" dial, a vertically brushed, three-layer lacquer finish that shifts between black and deep grey.
Tweaks to the dial design, including the removal of the logo at 12, improve legibility, while the bold leaf hands complement the watch’s bold look. The A1 Slate comes paired with an 18 mm-grained Italian leather strap in grey which IMO is a very elegant choice.
Movement
There is not any magic underneath, just a plain Sellita SW100, an automatic movement with an average 38-hour power reserve. Though not a groundbreaking mechanical innovation, the choice of movement is aimed at ensuring reliability and accessibility.
Availability & Pricing
The Anoma A1 Slate will be available for purchase starting March 10th at 9 am ET. Production is neither capped nor numbered and priced at approximately €2,100 (£1,800) it is quite an attainable reference. Deliveries are expected to begin in June 2025.
