Urwerk UR-100V Time & Culture II “Sumer”

Urwerk has consistently released timepieces that meld ancient inspirations with avant-garde design. In 2022, they launched a watch in the UR-100V series inspired by the Aztec Sun Stone. Now, they've followed up with a second edition in the Time & Culture series, drawing from Mesopotamian history and the city of Ur, home to the Sumerians who pioneered time measurement systems still in use.

Aesthetics

The Urwerk UR-100V Time & Culture II boasts quite a distinct 49.7mm x 41mm asymmetrical case with a domed cover that hides the majority of its satellite wandering hours display. The dial is adorned with symbols of Utu, the Sumerian Sun god, and the Sumerian Moon god Nanna can be seen alongside celestial imagery, all illuminated in a blue hue honoring Innana, the goddess of Love, War, and Female Fertility. Sumerian heritage is further embodied in the exquisite engravings that feature satin-brushed ridges and micro-sandblasted hollows.

Time is showcased in a window at the 6 o'clock position as satellite wandering hours progress along a tilted chapter ring indicating minutes.

The dial further integrates other complications: two apertures at 10 and 2 o'clock, which respectively show the Earth’s distance covered due to rotation and revolution around the Sun in 20-minute intervals.

This Sumer-inspired masterpiece comes with a durable Baltimore woven fabric strap in black, fastened by a pin buckle.

Movement

Powering this watch is the UR12.02 automatic movement, built upon a Zenith Elite foundation. It offers a 48-hour power reserve and operates at 28,800 vph. This movement incorporates Urwerk's signature orbital satellite hours gear train and a unique Windfänger winding rotor.
