1858 Unveiled Minerva Monopusher Chronograph: Montblanc's Openworked craftmanship
Montblanc's latest addition to the Unveiled Minerva series is a Chronograph that continues the tradition of highlighting the intricate mechanics of the Minerva movement. The watch was presented a few weeks ago, around May 2024 more specifically, and it showcases the openworked design that, in my eyes, captures the essence of both past and contemporary horology.
Aesthetics
The new watch features a 43mm stainless steel case with a fixed white gold fluted bezel that seems inspired by Minerva’s 1927 design. The case, combining satin and polished finishes, is slightly thicker than its predecessors.
I find particularly intriguing the sapphire openings on the case sides and additional windows at 6, 9, and 12 o’clock, allowing light to flood the movement, enhancing its visual appeal.
The openworked sapphire dial complements the striking look, featuring a transparent cut-out with white luminescent-coated indices and rhodium-coated hour and minute hands. The watch is paired with a blue leather strap with an alligator print, secured by a steel triple-folding clasp.
Movement
The MB M17.26 manually wound movement is the highlight of the Unveiled Minerva Monopusher Chronograph and has a power reserve of approximately 50 hours.
This inverted mono-pusher mechanism displays its intricate workings on the dial side, featuring signature elements like the arrowhead-tipped lever and V-shaped bridge. The movement looks very well made and finished with blue-plated plates and bridges contrasting with gold-plated wheels and a 14.5mm diameter balance wheel.
