New Urwerk UR-230. A newly developed, yet familiar, black case
Aesthetics
The UR-230 “Eagle” showcases a bold, aerodynamic design, encased in black DLC-treated titanium and CTP (Carbon Thin-Py). It features a unique mobile cover, also crafted from the same material, designed to protect the sapphire crystal. This cover is not just functional but also aesthetic, with a beak-shaped edge that facilitates easy lifting.
The UR-230 is a substantial timepiece on the wrist, with dimensions of 44.81mm x 53.55mm x 18.38mm (almost a 45mm case). The dial, visible when the cover is opened, features Urwerk's signature revolving satellite complication and a three-armed grade 5 titanium carrousel, displaying time in an innovative manner.
The minutes are shown through an aluminium 3D retrograde hand, with various Super-LumiNova colors enhancing the visibility of different indicators. It comes with a Vulcarbonised rubber strap by Kiska, secured with a black DLC-treated buckle featuring Velcro fastening.
Movement
At the heart of the UR-230 beats the new UR-7.30 calibre, a meticulously crafted movement providing a 48-hour power reserve. This calibre is protected within a hermetically sealed container and features a Swiss lever escapement and a flat hairspring, operating at 28,800vph.
The UR-230 introduces a dual variable-geometry turbine system and a hybrid winding mechanism, offering enhanced shock absorption and a controlled winding system, adaptable to the wearer's activity level. The movement is finished with fine sandblasting and circular satin finish, showcasing Urwerk's commitment to both functionality and aesthetics.
Availability & Pricing
The Urwerk UR-230 “Eagle” is an exclusive release, with only 35 pieces being produced, and is priced at 180,000 Swiss francs, excluding tax. While the availability of the UR-230 in stores or online is not specified, Urwerk promises a follow-up with more details and hands-on photos in the future.
