The Breguet Marine Tourbillon 5577: A Legacy Continues

Breguet has long been celebrated for its timepieces that are not just beautiful in design but also carry historical significance. Even if they don't have a genuine sports watch collection, they have been known to craft watches reminiscent of past purpose-built designs. Examples include the Type XX, a pilot’s chronograph that nods to both sides of the Breguet lineage, and the Marine, which was inspired by A.L. Breguet's role as the Chronometer-maker to the Royal Navy. Now, the brand adds another feather to its cap with the introduction of the Breguet Marine Tourbillon 5577.

Aesthetics

The watch is a clear nod to the Marine Heritage and really stands out in the Breguet collection, particularly for its sleek profile. Keeping the unique and intricate design of the collection intact, this model uses a slimmer case, measuring just 9.3mm in thickness. Despite its svelte look, it has a generous but not too big diameter of 42.5mm. Buyers have the option of selecting from 18k pink gold or 950 platinum as the precious material for the case. Keeping true to its marine heritage, the watch ensures water resistance of up to 100m.

The dial takes a slight detour from previous models, opting out of the wave-like guilloché pattern in favor of a solid gold dial showcasing a classic sunray-brushed pattern. Available in brown or blue (depending on the case), the dial features gold applied markers and hands infused with luminescent materials. The luminous Roman numerals might spark debates among traditional enthusiasts, but the overall appearance of the watch emphasises the tourbillon, especially noticeable at 5 o'clock.

Movement

It is powered by the in-house calibre 581. This ultra-thin movement, just 3mm thick, is comprised of 330 components, its slimness achieved through the utilisation of a peripheral rotor.

It's not just about aesthetics; this is a state-of-the-art movement with a swift-beating tourbillon that incorporates an escapement and a balance spring in silicon. The back of the watch is equally stunning with nautical-themed decorations, including a straight ribbed motif reminiscent of boat decks and a compass rose on the barrel drum. It can be acquired with either rubber strap or alligator leather strap and both options come with a folding clasp.

Availability & Price

For those wishing to own a piece of this maison's legacy, do not panic, this watch is now a part of the brand's permanent collection. As for the price tag, it's set at €161,300 for the rose gold model and €177,600 for the platinum edition.
