IWC & Warner Bros: Two new Aquaman-Inspired Aquatimer Perpetual Calendars
IWC Schaffhausen recently announced its collaboration with Warner Bros. Pictures for the upcoming film "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom". This partnership has led to the creation of two new models inspired by the red and blue glowing prop watches used in the film.
These models, part of the Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month collection, exhibit IWC's commitment to innovation, particularly through its experimental division XPL, which focuses on advanced materials and g-protection.
Aesthetics
The new Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month watches are strikingly bold, measuring 49mm in diameter and 19.5mm in height, making a significant visual impact.
Both editions feature a full-black case constructed from IWC's proprietary Ceratanium material, combining the lightness of titanium with the hardness of ceramic. This design includes the SafeDive System bezel, ensuring a secure connection between external and internal bezels. The watches are water-resistant up to 100 meters and come with a vented rubber strap and a Ceratanium pin buckle, along with a quick-exchange system.
The dial, inspired by the glow colors of the prop watches, features black backgrounds with red or blue luminous accents, a honeycomb pattern over the calendar display, and clear legibility of chronograph and perpetual calendar functions.
Movement
At the heart of these Aquatimer watches is the in-house calibre 89802, an automatic integrated column-wheel chronograph with a flyback function.
The movement is known for its double pawl winding system and boasts a substantial 68-hour power reserve. Unique to these editions, the rotor is blackened through a nickel-plating process and shaped to resonate with the movie's theme.
Availability & Pricing
The Aquaman-themed IWC Aquatimer Perpetual Calendar Digital Date-Month watches are released in two limited editions of 25 pieces each. The models are respectively referenced as IW379405 in red and IW379406 in blue. Both are priced at €62,000.
